Fishing on the mountain…annual Fox Fishing Derby takes place

Friday, July 1 was the annual Fox Fishing Derby on Little Red River.   Contestants could start as early as 5 a.m. and weigh-in was at Fox Country Store at 4 pm.  Lance Bonds caught the largest fish, at 2 lbs 9 oz., while Andy and Bill Bonds won for total weight.

Teacher rewards Rural Special 11th graders with a little fun after outstanding academic performance

English Teacher Ashley Dorsey promised her 11th grade English class that she would come to school dressed as Lady Gaga if each member of the class scored Proficient or Advanced on the 11th grade End-of-Course Literacy exam.  The results are in and they did it!

Decoration Days at area cemeteries announced

Both cemeteries at Rushing and Fox have set their traditional Decoration Day services.

Decoration Day at Rushing Cemetery is Sunday, May 29 with a program starting at the church at 10:30 a.m.

Decoration Day will be Sunday, June 5 at Fox Cemetery with a potluck following the service.
