Fox greeting card promotes community & P.O.

The Fox community now has its own greeting card. The idea is the brainchild of Margaret Morrison and Heath Owens who thought of it as a way to increase local postal revenue and also promote the community. The cards are sold at cost and include a set of 10 cards, 10 envelopes, and 10 Forever stamps for $12.50. The card cover features a heart-shaped collage of pictures featuring the school, post office, Fox sign, etc. Rural Special Beta Club is selling the cards and the first edition of 500 cards is almost sold out after only 10 days.

What do the words praise, screenplay, munchkin, curtain, and marshmallow have in common? They were the words spelled by winner Rachel Eslick. The annual spelling bee took place on Friday the 13th in January. It proved to be a lucky day for contestant #13, Rachel Eslick. Kaylee Avey and Jay Jacobes played another few rounds to determine their 2nd and 3rd place finishes

Sunnyland Civic Sisters pay it forward

These Sunnyland friends and neighbors gather monthly and enjoy visiting while looking for ways to help their community. Their most recent efforts included contributing to a local Angel Tree and providing Christmas for a family in the community.

Fox and the fight to save the post office was the topic of a recent blog entry by Heather Flanigan. Heather is the daughter of Rural Special alum Phyllis Schiefer Flanigan (1969). Heather is a small-town girl, having grown up in NE Arkansas and SE Missouri. She was a TV reporter in Arkansas before making several moves and landing along with her husband, Brett, in Albany, NY. She writes a blog for www.Albany.com called I Heart NY Ya’ll by Heather. Two Rural Special alums visit the Governor’s Mansion

Two Rural Special grads unexpectedly bumped into each other at a reception at the Governor’s Mansion. The reception kicked off a series of events to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Governor Winthrop Rockefeller’s birth.

Ashley White Snellenberg is a program associate for Winthrop Rockefeller Institute at Petit Jean and helped plan the event. She holds a degree in Public Relations from Arkansas Tech University. Renee Carr, Executive Director of Rural Community Alliance, was a guest at the event.

A training video produced by Center for Midwestern Initiatives to promote school foundations features Rural Special School. The film Hats, Pies, and Fiddles showcases foundations in Reeds Spring and Alton Missouri and Rural Special’s foundation, Rural Educational Heritage Inc.

Covered walkway extended at school

A covered walkway was extended from the Elementary building to the bus loading and unloading area and from the Special Ed building to cafeteria. We appreciate this improvement made by the school district that benefits students and staff alike.
